I do have a simple formula to help you decide:

  1. List down the tasks you want done.
  2. Decide on the duration in terms of hours.
  3. Decide on the frequency the task will be performed per day and per week.
  4. Calculate the total hours.
  5. Ask yourself if these tasks can be bundled.
  6. Decide what role can perform a group of tasks.

When you find a really good talent that’s helping you advance your business, look after that talent.

There is no shortcut to finding the right person for the right job. Surely, hiring directly has its advantages – it’s more suitable for business owners who are looking for people who can work on tasks for a short period of time.

Initially, newly established remote work relationships can be rough, but this is normal. You are practically strangers working together. Mistakes will be made and misunderstandings can happen, but this hurdle can be overcome.

Working with a new remote worker requires patience and time. In the beginning, you will have to guide them through your process to make sure that you get them to a standard that you require.

Be careful, though, as you don’t want to fall into the trap of spoon-feeding. To avoid this, allow your remote workers to apply themselves and make mistakes. Provide them with practice opportunities, and eventually, you will see them grow in the role you have given them.
